About Me
Hello! My name is Alejandro Vides, a sophomore studying Math and Philosophy at Northeastern University.
My Journey
I grew up in Miami. My interest in markets grew early on as I got into reselling sneakers and later trading crypto. At the same time, I explored the world of startups by building mobile apps and teaching myself how to code. Now, I am passionate about building products and exploring markets and use my studies in math and philosophy as a way to develop a deeper understanding and gain an advantage.
Why Math & Philosophy
I study math for the structure it gives my thinking. It's the foundation for understanding computer science, engineering, and quantitative problems systematically. Right now I'm most interested in probability theory and statistics which are fields that connect directly to how I think about markets and risk.
Philosophy complements this by tackling what math can't. Real-world problems aren't textbook problems. They are messy, contested, and human. Studying philosophy sharpens how I reason, argue, and express ideas clearly. I'm drawn to political philosophy, logic, and existentialism: how societies should be organized, how to think correctly, and what any of it means.
What I Do
I like working on things that require understanding markets, systems, or user behavior. Most of my projects sit somewhere between finance and technology. Right now, I am building the Daily Benji, an email-based spending tracker, and running Pericles Capital, a student quantitative research group.
What I'm Looking For
I'm looking for opportunities in finance, fintech, or early-stage startups. Anywhere where I can work on hard problems.
